Powell is a rapidly growing community in prosperous southern Delaware county. Despite all the new growth it maintains a charming downtown full of shops and eateries. The highly rated Olentangy school district serves the residents. There are many recreational opportunities in the area from Highbanks Metro Park to Polaris Fashion Place and the Columbus Zoo!
Powell was initially named Middlebury in 1801 after its settlers’ hometown of Middlebury Connecticut. Then in 1857 the residents decided to change the name to Powell after Judge Thomas Powell who set up the village’s first post office. The area remained relatively stable for the next 100 years and the municipality had 400 residents in 1947. As Columbus grew the demand for housing in the area increased and today the city maintains a small town charm with new housing options.
